The world is big and there are plenty of wonderful destinations to explore. Like we always say, there is no one-size-fits all destination or vacation. Choosing where to travel is a personal decision and a very important one. Asking the right questions allows us to match you with your ideal vacation destination.

Below are 11 questions we always ask clients in search of a vacation destination:

1. What are your interests and hobbies?

Maybe you love the outdoors, hiking, bird watch and kayaking. Or maybe you enjoy wine tasting and touring medieval castles. Did you always want to learn how to scuba dive, salsa dance, go hot air ballooning or skydiving? Think about what you and your travel companions love to do. Have fun exploring other interests and fun activities you have always wanted try.

2. What was your favorite vacation ever and why?

Think back to your favorite vacation. What was it that made it so spectacular? Was it the destination, the people, the food, your travel companions? Or maybe that unexpected and unplanned travel moment you simply can’t stop talking about.

3.What type of vacation are you envisioning?

Describe the vibe of your vacation in three words.

For example, are you looking for a relaxing, tropical and rejuvenating vacation; an active, thrilling and adventurous trip; immersive and engaging nature experience?

4. What do you NOT want to your vacation to entail?

We don’t alway know what we want, do we? But we can usually identify what we don’t want and it is often extremely helpful.

5. Who you are traveling with?

Are you traveling with your spouse for a romantic getaway, going on a family adventure, a large group trip or going solo.

6. What time of year do you want to travel?

When you travel affects where you travel. We take into account the destination weather, high and low seasons, available activities, accommodations, and more. Some destinations might have great weather year round, but specific activities aren’t available all year. For example, if you are interested in swimming with whale sharks, you don’t want to visit Belize in December. Choose the Maldives or Mozambique instead. We will make sure you travel to the right place at the optimal time for you.

7. What is your budget?

Budgets will dictate where you can go and when you can go. Some destinations are just more expensive than others. Cost of flights are also accounted for in this regard, as some destinations, particularly farther away, will have costly flights.

8. What is the maximum length of your trip?

The length of your trip will assist us in identifying an appropriate destination so that you can fully experience it during your time there. Maybe you are envisioning a New Zealand adventure, but time is not on your side. The Azores might be a good alternative.

9. How far or how long are you comfortable traveling?

You might have the time and budget to travel far, but do you want to? Hawaii is a spectacular destination, but if travelling from the east coast, the flights can be lengthy. Consider beautiful St. Lucia instead.

10. How do you feel about language barriers?

How comfortable are you with language barriers? Do you prefer to know the language or do you love to immerse yourself in the culture?

11. Do you have any destinations in mind?

We leave this question for the end on purpose. You may or may not have a destination (or destinations) in mind. Based on the answers given, we talk about any destinations you have in mind, if and how they fit your desired vacation and about potential destinations we think may work for you.

We take all of these factors into consideration when recommending a destination and planning your vacation. The most important thing is that the trip is custom tailored to you and your preferences and that includes choosing a destination.
